I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. An idea unexpressed is only a thought and often times, thoughts are fleeting. Ideas are simply thoughts which have been expressed and acted upon, good or bad. Some of the greatest ideas have become reality once they are expressed, acted upon AND accepted (or at least thought about) by others. And if by chance this thought-idea- reality is of the negative sort, it takes the expression of other ideas to counteract it or fix it. Unless you are a mind reader, is there any other way?
As an English teacher, I recognize the initial importance of words. Words have the power to draw immediate emotional responses... anger, sadness, sympathy, love, kinship, the list goes on and on. Words can inflame or supress. Words can spur people to action and a shared belief or they can shatter a dream and break a heart.

6. The government has a right to know what people are reading so they may determine who might be a threat.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that the government does not have the right to know what people are reading to determine who might be a threat. Most of the people in this world read books for pleasure, boredom, and because they have to such as for school. If the government made a law about them having to know what we read on a daily basis, no one would read at all. If someone reads a book that deals with a lot of murder, does that mean they’re going to go ahead and murder people just so they could end up in jail for the rest of their lives? I think not, because certain books that deal with murder and homicides interest people because of the type of personality that they have. The government can’t control the way people think and what type of books they like to read. The government should already know what types of people are threats by the either the way they act or their actions. Mainly their actions because that shows everything. The government can’t invade people’s privacy by trying to see every little thing they read because that’s just going to make our country worse and we’re trying to prevent that. The government thinks that they can control everything because they’re of a higher power. But technically, they can only do things to a certain extent such as them trying to see what everyone reads. If they try to do that, then the world mind as well not read at all because they may not like what they see that the citizens of the U.S. are reading.
I strongly agree with the statement “Torture of a person who is a threat to our country’s freedom is acceptable as long the person does not die.” Yes tons of people may say that this person just took their friend or family members’ life but that does not mean that violence is the answer or the correct way to response back with more in retaliation. For one, just because the person is not in their right mind does not mean take their life away. Yes they did just kill someone who is protecting our freedom but, we as Americans can do something much better than this. A perfect example is Sept. 11, 2001 us Americans lost so many lives that day in New York City. In my opinion they are jealous. We have so much to offer as Americans and they wanted all that we have, and since they saw that, they wanted to destroy it. Because of their actions there were many tears and if you are a religious person yes you were mad but happy because they were off to a better place. There is so much more that you can do to the person that threatened our freedom. We could put them in the penitentiary give them no shower, no clothes, no food but one day a week and even deprive them so something them love the most. The bottom line is if I had a child and he or she did something to take away our countries freedom take them away, yes, but killing that human is never the case. He/she has taken away our freedom so take away theirs and a little more…
ReplyDeleteHe who controls the past control the future.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this statement. Most people would disagree with this statement because as far as we know, no man can change the past. It is simply impossible. I happen to agree with this statement because if you could change the past, you could, in fact, control the future. If you could turn back the hands of time and change one little mistake, that could change your entire forthcoming. However, I do not believe that is what is meant by this idea. It all depends on how you interpret the use of the word ‘control’. And from which point is this person controlling the past? From the future? Or from the present? It does not mean that he who can physically go into the past and alter it will be able to control what lies ahead of him. It does not imply that a person can actually pick and choose whatever they want to happen, like pulling the strings of a puppet. To me, to be in control of your past, in this statement, most likely means that you think wisely before all of your actions to be sure that you do not make careless mistakes that may effect your future, to be in control of your life as a whole. A person who heavily considers their future during the decision making process, involving the actions that impact it, is in control of his future, which makes the statement agreeable. He who takes control of his life, is in control of his future.
I strongly disagree with the statement, “to assure our country’s freedom, the government should be able to spy on its citizens”. I disagree with this statement because how are we supposed to have “freedom” if we were to be spied on. We won’t have any type of privacy that we need whatsoever. Our country would be known as an in secured country that doesn’t trust anyone. If we were to be spy on by governments, would that mean that the government itself needs to be spied on because again they are citizens as well. That’s not fair for the government to spy on because we need to do things that the government shall not know about. Our country will not be known as a free country if they wanted to spy on us. What can the government do if they spy on us, what will they benefit from it? I think that if they were ever to spy on us they will be invading our space and our personal information that neither the government nor anyone needs to know. Spying on someone is not allowing a citizen to have its freedom or anything. Though some people do need to be spied on because they may be doing some illegal things that may need the attention from the government but that does not mean all the citizens need to be spied on. The government should only be allowed to be spied on if some are criminals and need to be followed by the government. I strongly disagree that to assure freedom, the government should not be allowed to spy on citizens.
ReplyDelete"For an idea to exist, we must have words to express it," I agree with this statement because everyone in the world have their own ideals and their own opinion and can't be expressed without words. People can have an idea and wish to share it, but without words to speak to another and share, tell and pass on the idea it cannot be expressed. You can't express somehting without words, you can with pictures, movements, objects and signs, but no one will know what you're trying to tell if your words don't express them, they will only make assumptions to what you are trying to tell them.
ReplyDeletePeople say a picture is worth a thousand words and I ask do you know what words they are, the thousand words that are suppose to express the picture? Can you say them, tell them to someone and pass it on? The thousand words are what the picture is worth, an idea, but those words need to be known in order for the ideal of the image to be expressed properly to those who wish to understand it. There are different forms of expression, but somoeone will ask you to express it in words, explain, tell, inform, and it can't be done without the words. If those words do not exist then the idea will never truely exist because you can't express it. In order to pass on an ideal you need words for people to hear, read, and take in so it can be understood and passed on which is the true expression of an idea.
I strongly agree with the statement Society would be safer if we had more security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals, because without cameras people think that they are able to do what they want and not get caught and do a lot of cruel and unusual things to people and things because there assuming that there aren’t any witnesses around and they cannot and won’t get caught so there for they would do anything they want with no hesitations or second thoughts. If cameras were simply placed and people and criminals knew they were placed there, the crime rate would drop immediately and they would think twice about doing what they were about to do once they see or are warned about the camera that are watching them. Cameras can help catch a lot of suspicious criminal acts beforehand if securities just watch it carefully and make sure they are all working properly and seeing if everything is going well how it is supposed to. Society would also be safer if we had more security cameras in public places because once people get into public places they tend to do crazy and un normal things and there are a lot of crazy people in the world that need to be watched over with the help of cameras because people with higher authority cannot follow them everywhere they go at all times so cameras are an easier way to get the job done. Those are the reasons that I strongly agree with the statement of security cameras being placed in public places to catch potential criminals.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this statement ‘’the only way to prepare for peace is to prepare for war’’. If you have war the only thing that it will lead is more destruction in our American society. Peace can only happen if we stand up for our rights and not bring any violence to our world. The government got to side with us and not against us in the breaking of war. However I do agree on the statement. ‘’ people who are a serious threat to our country’s freedom is acceptable as long as the person don’t die. ‘’ Today society anybody can be profiled and do to our status in our world today people are doing bad things in our societies. The securities in our united states are critical so we won’t have another terrorist attack in our country. So the people who are a threat in our country should be dealt with by torture. Sometimes we have to do what we can do to make our country stronger and better as a nation and we don’t kill them, they need to know that we are not joking with our citizen’s lives. Our freedom is something people can’t take away and we want all the world to know that the United States is a strong united country and we not going to let anyone destroy our freedom so the people who are a threat to our country will get tortured and learn that the united states is a country that is not to be played with.
ReplyDelete“Ignorance is Strength”
ReplyDeleteIgnorance is strength I’m somewhat confused (?) with this statement. Ignorance is the state or fact of being ignorant; the lack of knowledge, learning information. Strength is the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power. So my thing is how is it that someone that is lacking knowledge and information become strength in a situation? So the statement is saying that people that don’t know much are stronger then people that know more? I can understand that for one situation “RELATIONSHIPS” a person that goes into a relationship for the first time that doesn’t know much will give there all, because they don’t know the consequences or the feeling of being hurt in other words (there newbie’s to love). But people with experience and knowledge about past relationships would know what they are getting there selves into so they won’t give there all or show how they truly feel, because they would be scared to get their feelings hurt or just go through the same situation again so they hold back on their feelings unlike the newbie’s. so on that note ignorance is strength.
14.”He who controls the past controls the future.” I am undecided about this statement. This statement goes both ways for me. I believe that if you don’t know your history or you’re past you are going to repeat your mistakes. I think H” who controls his past will know of his mistakes and not repeat them which will cause them to be more successful and aware. On the other hand I don’t agree with this statement because I don’t think you can control your past. Whatever you do in that moment automatically becomes your past, so all you can really do is control your future. I believe e there is no way we can consciously control the past. He would have to think about everything he in that second to try and control his past, but still everything he does will still be that moment which means he is basically controlling his future. I am undecided about this because this statement is pushing me both ways. I can’t completely agree with this but I don’t disagree. For example if a person cheats on their mate ,that is their past ,and now they will know not to cheat on their mate, in which they will not make this same mistake, and this is controlling their future. Another example of why I am undecided about this statement is suppose this same person cheat on their mate for the first time, that is in the present moment, and eventually will turn into the past, but they cant go back and take there mistake back
ReplyDeleteI do not think that in order to assure our country's freedom, the government should be able to spy on its citizens.I totally disagree with that statement. If the government were able to spy on all of the citizens then the citizens of the country would probily rebel. This wouldnt allow the citizens to be free. they would infact be slaves in there own home's without there rights. If the government could spy on every citizen they would prevent alot of crazy events from happening such as attacks. If the government could they would probilly try to control every word that came out of a citizens mouth. If the government did that the world would become extremely violent because there would be so much hatred builded up against the government. The citizens would try to over throw the government and then there would be a world without any laws or rules. this would be known as chaos. If the government wanted to assure freedom they should allow people to do as he or she pleases. The government shouldnt spy on people. Spying on people is known as a invasion of privacy. Nobody wants to be watched inside of their own house, or while their using their restroom or going to the bathroom to take a shower. Another wat that the government could assure freedom could be to let people be themselfs and be natural. Having freedom isnt the same as living without rules.Freedom is living and having the power to break those rules if one decided to.
ReplyDeleteTo assure our country`s freedom, the government should be able to spy on its citizens.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I believe that it is necessary fro the government to spy on its citizens. My belief is that if you have nothing to hide than threes nothing to fear. People believe that it’s a breach of privacy and that their personal space is being invaded, but the thing is people aren’t that important to the government so why would their personal lives even matter to those who are looking out for the country. I don’t understand I have nothing to hide in my life, daily activates, with the things that I accesses on the internet. The reason why people want to hide what they do is because there embarrassed of the things that they do in life. They believe that maybe the government is going to notice them getting over and check them on it. The only reason the government would even spy or question intensively into anybodies life is because they actually are engaging in activates that are endangering the collective of the government and citizens they need to protect. Honestly I don’t see any problems with the government spying like I said in the begging the only people that really fear it are those who are embarrassed of the things they do in real life or in virtual life. Honestly I don’t see any problems with the government spying like I said in the begging the only people that really fear it are those who are embarrassed of the things they do in real life or in virtual life.
8) I totally agree with the statement ‘‘for an idea to exist, we must have words to express it’’ but I think that showing it with action is also a way of existing. When people have an idea that they want to express then ‘‘we the people’’ express it by finding the right words to explain our idea in the way for others to understand what that person is coming from. There are other ways to express an idea in different ways. For example, a person came up with an idea to play a joke on his girlfriend who is self conscious about her body by saying that she is fat, when he really meant was that she was fat by eating too much candy. When expressing an idea, its best to think about your idea before you express it. Another way of expressing an idea is to show it for other to know what you are talking about and understanding it visually. By showing it visually through action, people embrace what you are saying and how you explain it as you being serious, joking, or maybe even lying. When people explaining their ideas, others watch you carefully of what you doing as you saying your idea by looking at your body language because it shows everything about you, but we can’t always judge them. They body language can be poor around friends by the fact that he/she are comfortable around them but when they are in front of a crowd of people, he/she carry themselves well for the fact that they want others to see how well they carry themselves when explaining their ideas, to acting it out, summed up to how serious they are by their body language when they are speaking.
ReplyDelete"The Government has a right to know what people are reading so they may determine who might be a threat"
ReplyDeleteI strongly disagree with this statement. Those individuals from the government should be the last people trying to read what other people read. Why? Because that is something like invading privacy, the fourth amendment clearly states "Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution—part of the Bill of Rights, prohibiting unreasonable searches and seizures" why does it matter about what people read? I feel as though if someone wants to do something to harm the country/any public place, etc they would do it with or without someone’s permission. Unfortunately, the government is able to now track our AIM and phone conversations whether we like it or not. It's something not a lot of people know about but its happening. They shouldn't do that because now people can't live their lives like they want to, they have to be careful about any word that they say or type because it might be said in the wrong way and next thing you know you have the government knocking on your door to arrest you. Nowadays there are certain articles, books or movies that include many violence and such, so because we watch those certain things they make us a threat to the country? I think that the government is over reacting about this entire security thing. I believe that its good to have security to keep us safe but then there is also our freedom. How can we have our freedom if the government is on our back about everything we do?
Torture of a person who is a threat to our country’s freedom is acceptable as long as the person does not die… I totally disagree with this statement. I believe if a person is a threat to our country he/she should be taken to court and the process should be done the legal way, not what we as Americans think is right. Torture is inflicting excruciating pain, as punishment or revenge. If an American was held captive in another country because the people felt he/ she was a threat and was tortured we as a country wouldn’t like it so what gives us the right to do the same to another human being be a threat or not. It doesn’t even have to be a person from another country who is threat either because right here in America we have people who are threats to our freedom, we just don’t pay much attention because the government has a certain image of what a “threat” to the country looks like. I think people look at this statement and get to caught up in the “threat to our country” but forgot about the human being part of it where we all are equal and should be treated fairly and given our rights.

(7)I agree with the statement society would be safer if we had more security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals. Many crimes take place in hidden areas where there are no witnesses. Also when there is a time to ask someone to stand up and tell what they saw, no one says anything. More cameras in urban areas, high traffic areas, and drug problem places can be useful to the police and community members who want to put an end to high crime. Most members of high crime communities are afraid to go outside or send their small children to school and not get murdered or kidnapped on the way. If we put cameras in certain locations, the police will catch the criminals and less crime would be competed. Community members should get together and protest to their local police station or town leader to put cameras in high crime areas, and maybe people won’t be scared to leave the house. Other areas where we need cameras are parking lots and roadways. Thousands of hit and runs and car crashes happen every year and only hundreds of them are reported. I highly recommend cameras in and out of schools, due to teen violence. If we had cameras around the perimeter of schools maybe more kids will be cautions of fighting knowing that there are cameras in the surrounding area. Also the school district should consider having cameras in the classroom, not only for the students safety, but for the teachers and staff as well.
ReplyDelete"He who controls the past controls the future" is something I can agree with. The reason I can agree with it is because if you work hard in school and college than you may turn out to be successful. Once you are successful, you can look back and see that the reason that you are where you are is because you did what you had to do in order to be there. Meaning that you controlled your past in order to be able to control your future. So I completely agree with the statement or quote because if you dont control your past and let anything happen than, anything will just happen in your future unless you learn to take control of what you do or want to do in the future.
ReplyDeleteFreedom is slavery: I agree and disagree
ReplyDeleteIn yesterdays america, freedom is not as contriversail as it is today. See freedom just used to be about being able to go wherever or say what ever and just be what ever you wanted to be. But today, freedom is much more. it’s the ability to be able to create decisions and opinions without prejudice, restrictions or any ones thoughts on what you do. Freedom is to excersise ones rights, powers and desieres. But in the world that we live in today and the controlling government that we have, the only true freedom is that in which the government sees as “acceptable”. our frredom is limited because we can only do what were told and one who disagrees is punished. For example, today we can go to any store and buy what ever we want as long as its leagal. But if we try to buy some thing illegal, our freedom to buy what ever we want is replaced with slavery to the governments ideas on what is legal to buy and what is illegal to buy. Also, in the U.S. convicts are not allowed to vote even when they have been released from prison…..Now even though they are free, they are still enslaved to our legal system. But I think its kind of good to have a since of slavery along with freedom because when people are given too much freedom, there is potential for them to go against the government and in the end this will lead to complete turmoil because there is a great chaos in allowing people to live completely free.
"For an idea to exist, we must have words to express it."
ReplyDelete(+)See words are power the more words one knows the more powerful he/she will become. Also this power you gain from your large vocabulary with ultimately help bring ones ideas to the for front. For instance if you you remember some of the greatest mind of all time( Newton, Franklin, Galileo, and Martin Luther king)all had ideas about different things. Newton had and idea about gravity, forces, and motion. he had to gather his thoughts and put them into words which became his 1st 2nd and 3rd laws. When he wrote them down people began to learn from the words of this great mind in-which his word represent his very ideas. Same as Martin Luther King. He had an idea of and unsegregated country for all Black/African Americans. His idea became true because of his I Have Dream speech. This speech moved the hearts of the american population and helped in segregation in our country because one mans dream had the words to make his idea exist.
I disagree with the statement "The government has the right to know what people are reading so they may determine who might be a threat" because what a person reads has little to no threat to do with, if they want to harm the country or not. The other point i wanted to make is that the government should not be allowed to interfere in people's personal life. For someone to know what book you are reading is too much information for that individual to know. The governmentprobablyshould have the right to spy on you but not the right to stalk you. To observe someone from a distance but to know that person's every move is a completely different story. To bein a situation like that would make you not feel safein your own country and also feel over-protected or not protected at all by the government.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the statement ignorance is strength because a way to keep an idea strong is to remove all suspicion and doubt. And if a person has no reason to question a belief, than that belief will remain. And if this lack of questioning is indefinite then the belief will also be indefinite. Therefore the people who are ignorant will be prevented to ever doubt, which creates a powerful strength in the idea. We are all aware that ignorance is defined as lack of knowledge and strength is defined as the being mentally or physically strong. So “ignorance is strength” seems somewhat of a contradiction, but in all actually it makes perfect sense. What a person does not know won’t hurt them, so basically ignorance is bliss. Ignorance is Strength may not apply to someone who has no authority but for someone who does wants to keep it that way. Therefore if their followers have no real clue of what is going on then that person will always have their power because it’s no one with enough knowledge to try and overthrown them. So this is how I view the quote if a person really wants to be in control their best bet is to keep everything somewhat covert in a way that no one will be bothered in wanting to change anything because they wouldn’t know what to change. So yes I very much so believe that ignorance is power, but only in specific situations. This quote does not apply to everyone or every scenario.
ReplyDeleteThe only way to prepare for peace is to prepare for war…
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this quote because peace is not just obtained without any strings attached. Peace is always surrounded with jealousy, envy, and many problems. The feelings are evoked because others do not have peace and they can’t obtain it because of who they are, but they plan to have it. As a result of not being able to obtain peace one doesn’t want others to have it. The people in today’s time are willing to steel someone else’s peace and see them in misery but that individual is not willing to just let it happen. So in this case, one has to be prepared to fight in order to maintain their peace. For example, for the United States to have peace as an independent country, we as a nation had to be prepared because England would not allow us to have peace being an independent country. In order for one to prepare for peace they must be ready to fight for it because it will not come easily.
"The government has a right to know what people are reading so they may determine who might be a threat"
ReplyDeleteWho went to get the mop?...Since the amount of coffee spilled on the United States Constitution has surpassed the expectations of a paper towel. If you give a seven year old a book about a trickster fox taking cookies from a cookie jar, will the F.B.I bust down the doors and take you in to custody? Do you think the seven year old will become a bank robber in 20 years all from a book? If the answer was yes than that must be one of the most nonsense answers ever. Does the Government provide the people of the U.S. with iformation in which they read? Well unless its cocncerning a deficit of money. Why should the United States Government have te right to know what the citizens read, this is amoral, as well as unconstitutional. They must think by the citizens having access to certain media in which they dont approve than were going to become threats. What has the world become to.
"Freedom is Slavery."
ReplyDeleteFreedom is slavery, think of it. You couldn't do anything you wanted to without someone on your back constantly. There are restrictions to everything, or guidelines. If you were truly free there wouldn't be laws, structures, or guidelines to follow behind. Instead we're dictated everyday what we should do, and subliminally manipulated what to wear. I don't find freedom in manipulation. Freedom is a word that has a positive connotation. People here the word freedom and automatically feel feelings of happiness, joy, and prosperity, as appose to words such as dictatorship. I think we choose to use this word other than slavery, or dictatorship is because people wouldn't want to live under a communistic social structure. So the Government uses words such as freedom to deceive and manipulate people into believing they're free when in actuality they're all slaves. Slaves to a government or society that believes that people need structure, that people need rules or there would be absolute chaos. How can freedom be free if you dictated what to do, how you should act, what your aspirations should be. I don't see that as freedom, but as slavery. You're told you need a job, to make some sort of income, but why? Aren't the basis of this country build on morals to pursue for happiness. What if you're happier not working, but in the wild naturing yourself? Do you honestly think that you could stop paying your taxes, or health insurance without the IRS or the government coming after you, no right? This is why i believe freedom is slavery.
"For an idea to exist we must have words to express it". For statement number eight I disagreed with the statement. I feel that an idea can exist without words for a few reasons. One reason I believe ideas can exist without words is because some people can't put their ideas into words. Some ideas just require action, less than words. An idea is not always words, sometimes an idea can be series of thoughts expressed by small symbols. Sometimes these symbols can't be described leaving you with no words to describe the ideas. While its true words turn into actions its diffrnet from ideas. Ideas can skip the stage of words and turn directly to an actions. There has been plenty of thimes when an idea in my head turn directly to an action. One example of an idea with no words is racisim to a small child. Yhe reason why is because the small child has the idea that all blacks or the same, but he doesn't have the words that can express the idea, but the idea still exist without the words at the end. -Andre Brown 102
ReplyDeleteI agree with the following statement "Those who would exchange freedom for security deserve neither". I believe this statement is true to the soul. Many people have died for not only their freedom but others as well. And also your freedom defines who you are.
ReplyDeleteSlavery has dated back since basically the beginning of time. Many people have gave their lives rather than live in slavery. Slavery has been won so why would we try to reverse time, reverse all the hard work the others have fought so hard for. To give up your freedom is like giving up your life, its like saying that everything that Harriet Tuddment, and others did what they did for nothing. These Harriet risked her life to being freedom to as many people as she could, she could have just went up north by herself an never came back without even thinking twice about anyone else but here it is because of her we have our freedom.
There also could be the argument that Freedom means that you can do as you please because your free, even if that means giving up your freedom for security. Yes this argument could be made because we are free people who live in an ever very understanding land, but giving up your freedom to me just seems very unethical. We have come too far for me to do something as stupid as giving up my freedom. Me personally I can’t really see why a person would even think to give up something as great as your freedom.
He who controls the past controls the future…
ReplyDeleteI agree with the statement that he who controls the past controls the future. I agree because our future is like our destiny we shape it to how we want it and continue along that road. What I mean by we shape it, is that on our road of life we are given different possibilities and options along the way. Now with each possibility and each option there are positive and negative effects. But negative and positive effects can open up more possibilities for us, in the present or in the future. We control our past, we are the ones who made our past, and we are one ones who are going to continue on our path towards the future. Everyone one has a past, and that past helped them to make it to the present and is going to help them make it in the future. Our past holds all of our bad decisions, good decisions, mistakes, things we wish we could take back, death, lose, and so much more. But with all that in our past we can learn from our mistakes, right the wrongs that we did and move on to a better and brighter future. Our past can also help us to enlighten the younger generations with things they should be careful of and what not to do. With this we become the teachers of the life lessons we have learned through our past, and it also helps them to start on a past of lessons they will learn and knowledge they will use when they grow up.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with number nine’s statement. Number nine’s statement said “Reporters should submit their work to government officials so they may determine if it’s a threat to the country.” The reason on why I disagree with the statement is because it would be unconstitutional. The First Amendment states,”Freedom of expression consists of the rights to freedom of speech, press, assembly and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, and the implied rights of association and belief.” The fact of reporters submitting their work to the government violates our rights as American Citizens. On the other side if reporters agreed to do so it will be perfectly fine. Either way I know for a fact Americans love exercising their rights. Another reason I disagree with the statement is that there is a need to inform our people on what is going on in the country and the world. The government likes to keep things discreet or like some may say, “On the down low.” With that I just would never agree on it. We need to know what’s going on, as Americans. If the government is spending money on worthless things then it’s our right to express our opinions on the matter, the main thing that gives use that right is that we pay taxes. Our taxes would be being spent and waste. But that is just an example on how it would be better for our reporters to keep their dignity and right to address on matters even if it’s not really approved by the government.
8. “For an idea to exist, we must have words to express it”. No, this is a false statement. Let me began, by revealing how much of people words that really does have a meaning. Starting out with communication, most of communication is not done by just talking. Body language and tone of voice, is also a form of communication. First fifty-five percent of communication is body language (movement & interaction), thirty-eight percent is vocal. Vocal communication is tone, amplitude, and velocity of voice. Leaving words with only seven percent of communication. Meaning that of all the talking we do, it means nothing really.
ReplyDeleteAlso in this world, I believe that ninety-seven percent of the population (world) are liars. Suggesting that, what the “world” says, isn’t usually true. For example, how many times have you said something, and nothing at all happens. Bull s**t really, nowadays, we never do what we say. Then in life, people go back on their word. They say this and do that. We, as a human race are, liars, hypocrites, and procrastinators. In theory, “For an idea to exist, we must have actions to express it”-Jacob Collazo
I agree with statement #7 that states “Society would be safer if we had more security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals”. I agree with this statement because people today do not respect one another. Using security cameras are a great way to utilize technology in order to help public places to be a much safer place. Not only will the security cameras catch the people who cause chaos and mischief, but it will also intimidate people in order to keep from doing the wrong things. This could help the police out as well by increasing the number of security cameras in public places. Security cameras can also spot the teenagers and children who stay out after curfew. Today, criminals have their own smart ways of avoiding security cameras. These security cameras that would be put up should be hidden as well so the criminal will not take advantage from them. The cameras would most likely lower the criminal rate in public areas. There are a lot of people that populate public areas. So it’s best to get the cameras to benefit and protect people who visit or live in public places. There is too much violence and hate in the world that we live in, so it is best to do something about the problem before it gets worse. I believe that if there were no more security cameras than it is today then the crime rate would most likely increase. The crime rate would get out of hand in certain places because of the failure to make things better for everybody that lives there.
ReplyDelete“Society would be safer if we had more security cameras in public places to catch potential criminals.” I completely disagree with this statement because, no matter how many cameras you have in a public place, public places such as convenience stores and banks have cameras hooked up in order to keep a record of breaking and entering during after business hours and robberies during business hours or after closing time. Other public places such as highways and street corners may need to be under surveillance video for hit and runs, drive bys, gang fights, shootings, thief’s, vandalizing a property, breaking and entering or a drug deal. The reason why I feel that adding more cameras in public places is useless is because in the city of Philadelphia there are cameras in public places. And even though the citizens of Philadelphia are aware of these cameras there are still individuals who sell drugs on corner streets and a lot of gun violence and gang fights still occur in the city. To me video cameras are useless tools when used to take a video of a public place because I have this vision of a police man in an office with his feet up on a desk, eating a bowl of popcorn watching our city’s streets and corners like a rental from Netflix. I feel that what we really need to keep society safe are police men and women to do their jobs like they were trained to do and are supposed to do.
ReplyDelete"patriotism means supporting your country during times of war" I disagree with this statement because if one is truly patriotic towards their country, they would e patriotic at any given time even in the absence of war. War does not define he/she who possesses a patriotic feeling for their country; however, war may put one's patriotism to the test but it does not define it. Some may argue that war ultimately eradicates a person's true love and admiration to their country. More and more people oppose war each day and they believe that it destroys and contradicts said government's integrity. I would argue that war is merely a form of surrender and is a country's last resort when issue's are considered to be impossible to be resolved simply by words. I firmly believe that words are stronger and inflict a greater impact than physical violence where as physical violence simply exhibits the weakness of a government and shatters its maturity and self-respect. No government should take pride in being victorious in war but should be proud of and embrace that which makes it positive and honorable. To infer, patriotism is born through the overall belief that your government is the best government there is, it is not born through violence.
ReplyDelete"The Government has a right to know what people are reading so they may determine who might be a threat" I agree with this statement because the government should have the right to know what kind of books citizens are reading. If the government didn’t know what kind of books people are reading then they wouldn’t know what is going on with them in a mental state. I don’t think the government is spying to be noisy or anything I just think it’s just their way of weeding out the insane from the not so insane people. Yes it may be invading the space and privacy of people but it’s only for the safety of this country. People have to think what they would do if they were in charge of millions of people and because they don’t want to invade their personal space what would be their best way of handling a situation to put a stop to people that could possibly be a threat to the United States??? I bet they wouldn’t even have a clue. To me it’s just like walking into an airport and them having to tell you to go through the metal detectors and to put your luggage through the scanner so they know you are not a threat to the other passengers on that flight. So would you consider that to be invading someone’s privacy??? You have to also remember that a person mind is the most dangerous weapon a person can have. Any other weapon because its filled with knowledge that you would have never thought that person can have.
ReplyDelete"The only way to prepare for peace, is to prepare for war." To me, there is no truer statement. The only thing that stops our society from descending into complete and uncontrolable anarchy is fear. Fear that has been instilled in our minds from when we were children by our parents, our teachers, the government, and even religion. Joseph Stalin once stated that "religion was created to control the masses" He beleived that religion was created so that the feeble minded people would be scared of the moral consequences of their actions. Basically the fact that we will not kill our enemy for fear of burning in hell for all of eternity. In my opinion, anybody that can overcome human nature and do what they want to do is my hero. A true individual does what he/she wants, reguardless of the consequences. But again, this initial statement applies to those people that are not very individualistic, and rely on others to make their life decisions and tell them the proper way to feel and act, essentialy, drones. 95% of respect is fear, fear of what the person in question can do to you. For instance, after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, America's military prowess has never been questioned again. Fear, ladies and gentlemen, is what keeps your little world from crumbling, and we are so used to living in fear that we as a generation no longer realize it. Who says whats right? Who says whats moral? Who says whats wrong? This freedom that we think we have is not truely freedom. Now, don't get me wrong, This is the best country in the world to live in and we have the most rights, but we arent free. If you think you are free, get on an airplane and say bomb, and learn first hand of how free you really are, and how fear controls our society.

# 14. “ He who controls the past controls the future”. This quote has multiple perceptions because of its relations to the things that you may encounter in the past which has a major impact in the future. The reason why I chose this quote besides the fact I completely agree but because there is no doubt in my mind that our past does have a lot to do with our future. The quote above shortly summarizes that the decisions we make as humans early on in life paves its way throughout our lives. I believe that life gives you choices and it is up to the individuals to make the right one or the wrong one. A choices that one may make can have critical consequences which may cause our future to suffer. If those who make smart and positive decisions while they yet young, their future possibly could be rewarding. For instance, a person who is doing horrible in school and not taking anyone or anything serious has a chance that they might not be as successful or in fact not even successful at all as the next. While on the other hand a student who has all of their priorities straight, as well as being focused in and outside of school and takes things that could contribute to his future has a great deal of being successful. Basically your past is your future from any angle that you look at it.
ReplyDeleteI’m undecided with the statement, “To assure our country’s freedom, the government should be able to spy on its citizens. In a way I agree with the statement but then I don’t. I disagree with the statement in a way because that is invading people privacy. Nobody wants somebody watching every move they make. There are people that want to live a life where they are free to whatever they want without worrying about someone watching their every move. For example, there are people that hide money in secret areas because they don’t trust banks. There are even people that like to walk around naked in their homes or an old man that watches cartoons every Saturday morning. Even though it invades other people privacy, it can help figure out who is up to no good. The government would be able to catch terrorist and criminals before they are able to commit a crime. It could help decrease the crime rate in cities and terrorist attacks. I feel it would be good for the U.S but it would invade people privacy. In America we are free to express ourselves. If the government watches the citizens, then the citizens wouldn’t feel comfortable to express themselves the way they want to. The government can only spy citizens if they have evidence that can prove he or she is up to no good. For example, if someone sees a person with a lot of unauthorized weapons then the government could spy on the person. (SS for Ronnie G)
ReplyDeleteI stronlgy agree with this statement "Ignorance is Strenght". People build their own alter ego to get what they in life for the fact that they don't want to see no one suceed over them in any field of position. Some people do it for the fun of it to see people get down or feel sad about anything that comes out of thier mouth to make them feel good or get a laugh out of it. I believe the definition of Ignorance is when somebody is really rude or don't respect themselve in the inside or outside of their own body. To build confidence you must have a mass of Strenght and to build this strenght you must work on it to not get down on yourself.I believe that if this world was meant for peace and happinesss there wouldn't have to be Ignorance to build somebody Strenght in life itself. When people realize this saying they would find out there would be more outlets in life, then a close door in there face all the time for the simply fact of the word Ignorance. We must meditate on the word Strenght because it can take us to higher heights in life and reach goals we never reach before in our life and it will help us. Istrongly agree with this statement for the fact that i have experience Ignorance is Stenght in my own way and it doesn't get you you no where in life with a Ignorance heart.
ReplyDeleteHe who controls the past controls the future…
ReplyDeleteThe statement, “he who controls the past controls the future”, in my eyes this statement is authentic. When we as people do things in our lives it affects our future rather it is positive or negative. For instance, lying to your parents, fight or having a altercation in school, maintaining good grades, missing days out of work because you’re too tired or a soldier being prepared for his or her job. All the listings above have consequences rather good or bad they all are and can be self-controllable.
Lying to your parents is controllable as well as affects your future, by lying to your parents this gives them motive to not to believe or let you do as you please. They wouldn’t know what you’re really doing because you’ve proven yourself unworthy of their trust. Another act that can affect your future is fight or having a altercation in school as well as in the work world. There are always other incentives to take when put in a bad position handling it in the wrong way may prevent you from graduating or in the work world prevent you from getting a raise. Maintaining good grades can go a long way, such as getting accepted to a ivy league school such as Yale University.
By controlling our past you have the ability to change the future with one minor decision. We hold the future in our hands rather it just affects our lives or the lives of others.
Q No.2 says "To assure or country's freedom, the goverment should be able to spy on it's citizens." I for one strongly disagree with this statement. I disagree because America is a country built on lies. how can a person truly be free if he/she every move is being watched like a lab rat.one wrong turn, an your locked up for a small crime that you committed. It is believed by all outsiders that America is this wonderful rich place, where every body is with bright teeth happy and smiling, and that this is a place where freedom of speech is practiced. But America is a place where you can say what u want but watch what you say because you will be penalized for your choice of words. And plus their are allot of ugly teethed people in America. what i don't understand is how can a person really watch an innocent by standard every day from the moment they wake up,to the moment they sleep, an then, repeat the whole process the next day. i personally believe that a person with that much time on their hands needs a hobby or something,. I mean like come on don't you you got a wife and kids to worry bout? That's just how i feel on the topic, this is Agent Knox signing off.So good night an God, please bless America.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that freedom is slavery because both words do not have the same meaning. To have freedom means you have no limits. No one can stand in your way of anything. You can do whatever it is you want without judgment. Whatever you have your mind set for, you have the will and the right to go for it. People may have their opinions about it, but they will not stop you. Freedom is something that you take control of. It will never be the other way around. When you have freedom, the world is your oyster. You can do and say whatever you want. You have no one holding you against your will. That's because they can't do it. No one can tell you not to do anything. Unless you are a child, freedom is in your grasp. The meaning of freedom is infinite. Anything goes no exceptions. There are no rules and no limitations. That's what freedom means to me. Now slavery, now that's a different story. Slavery is another way of saying captivity. Slavery is a way to close you up. You have no rights to anything what so ever. When you are enslaved, your master can and will do whatever they want to you. The worse part about it is you have to give in to it. They will rape you, they will hit you, and they will abuse you. When you’re a slave, you’re not in charge of anything. You can’t fight back, you can’t speak your mind, and you can’t resist. That’s real the meaning of slavery.
ReplyDeleteWar is NOT peace to a certain point. If you believe war is peace you have to be the most non-caring person in the world. Now war is a conflict carried on by force of arms. This could be between nations or between parties within a nation. Most of the time, they are fighting over the simplest thing in the world such as oil. In the other hand peace is a state of mutual harmony between people or groups. From my stand point, I do not think that war is peace. The reason being is that thousands and thousands of people lose their life fighting for the country they live in. And the way they kill and accomplish their missions is to either kill or totally destroy something that has a whole bunch of innocent people in or around. I believe whoever thinks that this quote is positive should reconsider their thought and do a lot of research on all the missions the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, FBI, and Secret Services have done in the past. And when that person does there research, they will see all the killing, torturing, and discriminating facts on how the United States of America solves there problems. About 60 percent of the time they missions end fatal with someone getting killed or extremely injured.
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion, I state again War is NOT peace. War is the way of people getting killed over the things or objects another country wants or desperately needs from another country.
I disagree with the statement (1.)those who would exchange freedom for security deserves neither , because some people who do have freedom do not feel like they have it. Who is to say what freedom really is anyways ? And no one feels 100 percent safe either . So to feel enslaved and to not be sure of your security is a horrible way to live . So those people who would chose security over freedom , i don't blame them . It has been said that freedom is a state of mind , and if you don't feel free you should indeed change what you do not agree with for your security , your situation might turn out wayyyyy better . If you really think about it you already have to secure your freedom . So because you are securing your freedom you are not getting any because you are so busy trying to protect it . And if you are too secured sometimes , you are not free . Either you can live and be free with no limits , which is very unsafe or you can be secure and don't have anything to worry about because you can not do anything . So its like you have one or the other . So if people would like to choose any one over the other i think it should be up to them , its their lives . I do not think both should be taken no matter what they chose , its really about what you make of your choice . <3

ReplyDeleteHe who controls the past controls the future …..
Yes I do strongly agree with the quote “he who controls the past controls the future” because of the simple fact what you done in past or present always or if not always most time effects your future or the future. For example the rules and regulations President Obama puts in place today effects our future depending on the rule or regulation. Another example is if I was to convict a felony in my past I controlled my future in being not so great because of simple fact I would be unable to get or enjoy many opportunities, for example good paying job because of my fast and what I did. Also we all control our future and it is in our hands and no one else so it is only right that he who controls the past controls the future .Also without controlling the past and making and learning mistakes you won’t know what to prevent and avoid in the future which leaves you or anyone the controller of past present and FUIURE! You future is in your own hands regardless who you are and no one there to get to your future and make sure good except your own self so again that’s why he who controls the past controls the future . And lastly the leaders in the past all affected our future in good and bad ways some helped stop slavery and others got us in a recession but we all control the future if we control the fast.

Freedom is Slavery
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this statement because Freedom and Slavery is defined as two different things. Freedom is defined as the condition of being free; the power to act or speak or think without externally imposed restraints. For an example when we have freedom most people are happy and excited because they are free and don’t have to listen to anyone or be controlled by them. I love having freedom because half of the time I don’t like being told what to do by any and everybody neither does I like being controlled by people. Slavery is defined as bondage: the state of being under the control of another person. For an example when you are going through slavery there are no Freedom and cannot do anything without being controlled by someone. I am glad that there is not any Slavery in today’s life in the area that I live in because if it was I don’t even know what I would do. As a matter of fact if there were Slavery in this life time I guess it would be normal to me because I wouldn’t know what Freedom feel like or what Freedom is. As I stated in the beginning I don’t agree with the statement Freedom is Slavery because they is the total opposite of each other. And Freedom is what everyone most likely wants, Not Slavery.
I strongly disagree with this statement because there is a difference between freedom and slavery.Freedom : the quality or state of being free: as a : the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b : liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another. In other words its being yourself without anyone or anybody controling what he or she do with themselves.Slavery is something very totally different. Slavery has to deal with be captive not doing anything at all unless your master tells you to.Slavery is the practice of slaveholding. Slavery is not what we all want. We want everythng to stay the same like it is now. By being Free
