  1. Up to page one hundred eighty – five there are a series of events that has occurred. So far there are two events that stood out the most to me. The first event is when Julia and Winston were at their new meeting spot above the shop and Julia surprised Winston with a number of items. She brought Winston coffee, tea, sugar and she had make up for herself. This event stood out to me because the items that we have and take for granted Winston never had the ability to get access to these items. The second event is when Julia and Winston went to visit O’brien at his home. While at his home they were served wine in which they never had before. As a reader I learned the most during the visit, I learned that there is a way that the telescreen can be shut down. That there is really a Brotherhood, that Goldstein is alive but no one is aware of his whereabouts and there are a lot of who are against the party. I think that Winston and Julia will stay together until they are caught by the though police. I think that they are a very strong pair and that they compliment each other in multiple ways. I don’t think that Winston and Julia should put too much of their trust in O’brien because he just does not seem trust worthy to me. I do think O’brien is truthful about his affiliation with Goldstein but I think he will be the cause of Winston and Julia being caught. As of now the book has picked up and has become a lot more interesting. I am looking forward to the ending of the book and how every thing will sum up.

  2. Having read up to page 185 in the book, I think this is so crazy. I would have never thought that Winston would do the things that he has been doing. I know he broke the rules but he never broke the rules out in the open like that. This Julia character is a negative influence on Winston. I think he should have stuck to writing in his journal in his private “corner”. No one would have ever caught him of he stuck to that. Having ungood sex out in the open was extremely foolish. Even though he was in a place where there weren’t many thought crime police, doesn’t mean that it was a smart idea. I understand that he likes to have sex and breaking the rules might make him feel good about himself. But you could never do it. Ok, maybe I could. I guess it’s how you look at it or how you feel at the time. I don’t think having sex is worth risking my life. On the other hand is it really living if you have to live with so many rules? I just hope nothing bad happens to him, or Julia. I have a feeling that Julia will be hanged. I know that whatever happens to him he will not be killed right away because we have 60 more pages to read. Maybe he will be questioned about everything he knows Oceania, why he committed his crimes? I think they might try to turn him into a loyal follower of big brother, after all he is the main character, why would they kill him.

  3. Choice!
To date, 1984 has many twists to it. for example the part when Julia come home with the present for Winston which was the bread and jam and milk and coffee was very surprised to the fact that they were cherishing these everyday things that we don’t pay attention too. Also the part when O’Brien invited them to his house and they found out that O'Brien lived in an inner party house. That kind of surprised me because that means that he has a secret. Then when O’Brien was talking about his brotherhood and alliance against big brother also had me thinking about his role in everything. Another thing is how Winston described his childhood. It was kind of crazy how selfish Winston was to his brothers and sisters, and I also felt bad for his mother because Winston’s father left their family in their time of need. Lastly, the event that really shocked me was when Winston and Julia was in there meeting place above mr.charringtons shop and the voice from behind the painting started repeating them. Come to find out there was a telescreen behind the painting. Then the thought police came and arrested them and they were beating up Julia…….The Book, the book was kind of funny because it was basically what the ministries were about with the freedom is slavery stuff but it really clarified everything and made Winston’s thoughts and theory’s more organized. Question: for question 53…..why does Winston have the sensation of stepping into a grave? Because I have no idea. lol

  4. Honestly I can say that Julia and Winston are really committed to each other. Even though they are great for each other, the worse is yet to come. It is only a matter of time until it is over for them. So far from what I’ve read, this won’t end well for Julia and Winston. Because of these constant meetings between the two they’re bound to be seen. Plus their meeting place is kind of dirty. In addition, I don’t it was a good idea for Winston to tell O’Brian about their secret meetings. How we know that that he won’t report to the thought police. Even though that he and Winston are friends, I do not think that he can be trusted. By the way, why did O’Brian give Winston the book in the first place? What is the book about? I think that eventually they’ll get caught and will have to be vaporized. I do have one question though, why are the Thought police searching and destroying the book anyway? From the look of it that book must contain secrets that they don’t want the people to know. So I think that what Winston should do is keep it away from the thought police for as long as he can. And once he reads it, he should tell the whole town. I have two predictions. Either, Winston, Julia and the town’s people will over through the Party members, or eventually Winston and Julia will get caught and the both will be vaporized. Either way, they’ll end up together.

  5. Julia, Julia, where art thou Julia? Based on the novel so far Julia is a young women who is very clever, against the Party like Winston, and claims to love him and has been spending ever so much time with Winston. I don’t think it is going to last. Evidently she claimed to have experience with many other men in the past and who is to say she isn’t a person who gets the guy, and then tosses him when she’s had enough of him, to the Party. Their only purpose, to Winston it seems, was basically to just have sex whenever they could find the time to and Winston is becoming so used to this that he even believes it is his right to have sexual opportunities with Julia. With that type of attitude I believe Julia will grow tired of him cause she does seem to be look for more between them than just sex, which is all Winston can think about. Julia sometimes actually seem to be trying to have what you would call in that time, a normal relationship between man and woman like in the old days before the Revolution and Big Brother. Although, Winston isn’t always just sex first and questions later, cause he does has a fascination with the past like Julia, but only when she seems to remind him of old days. If she brings something that is anything remotely related to how a free life outside the Party was like before Big Brother, Winston shares in the moments, but still he is a horn dog. I think later in the book, Julia something is going to happen between Julia and Winston that will devastate him or maybe both of them. I think the theme of this novel is truly surrounded by love, drama cause Winston be having some paranoid moments, and suspense cause of basically that “What if” feeling the book gives cause what if this happened or happens and then what that Winston gives in situations.

  6. It really is obvious that Winston and Julia are meant for each other and the fact that the society that they live in prevents them from actually, genuinely; showing their love for each other is quite depressing. It makes you thankful that you don’t have to hide your feelings, good, bad, or any other kinds of feelings we may have, like love, lust, or trust. The whole place was set up to have every trace of individuality taken from the individual. It’s a crime against nature to do that, there is a reason that we are called individuals, and it is for all of the things that make us different from each other. So, would it not logically follow to say that taking a person’s individuality is wrong? Is it not the very basis of individuality that enables us to survive and adapt to our surroundings? This is why I think that this whole book is seriously jacked up to the point where it has become disturbing. This has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of what could have actually happened to the world, and I can’t help but think that that we have is not too bad, and for all the complaining that we do, we actually don’t have it too bad at all. At least we have the freedom of choice. So we can’t really complain.

  7. OK ladies and gentlemen, this is what’s going to happen. Winston and Julia are going to join the brotherhood, which is lead by O’Brien who turns out is ACTUALLY Emmanuelle Goldstein under a new identity... He has returned to Oceania trying to find more people to join the Secret society known as the brotherhood. The brotherhood is working with a highly advanced alien race to uncover the true identity of big brother and his evil minions at the ministry of truth. During the week of hate, Winston will work extremely long hours and find a picture, the only picture of big brother ever taken. And the true identity of the fiend is none other than the hamburglar! Goldstein immediately calls down the alien race that actually turns out to be a spaceship filled with purple, rotund grimaces and the battle for Oceania begins. During the battle, Winston and Julia somehow find a hidden room with no telescreens and have sex, during which Julia is impregnated with Winston junior, and Winston then goes out and joins the fight. During battle with a victory cigar in one hand and a grimace gun in the other, Winston is confronted by the hamburglar who tosses Winston a light saber. The two duel, and then the hamburglar secretly reveals that he is indeed Winston’s father, and that his mother was a dirty prole prostitute, and that his twin sister from whom Winston stole the chocolate is in fact named Julia, and that she now lies about her age as does every other woman ever….. Winston, immediately realizing that he has impregnated his own sister, thrusts the light saber into his own abdomen, and apologizes for ever being born. The hamburglar and his ministries manage to push back the full scale invasion of grimaces and send them packing. And, in the end, Nothing really changes. At all. The story just ends.

  8. Julia is a smart and clever women who strongly agrees with Winston being against the party. The love Julia has is not the same Winston has for her. They dont spend time with eac hother at all it's like there's no connection at all.I believe that their relationship is going to ended because Julia wont find any interest in Winston. She going to grow boredom of him.

  9. Ok, I have a couple of questions. I been thinking does Winston really accept Julia for being with many men? If so do u think it is because of love or to have one else against Big Brother? Julia is cool and all but she can be negative towards Winston. I say she can be cool cause she breaks the rules and that is hot. She must have some fortitudes to actually stand against an oragnization even if its not directly in their faces. Something that also caught my attention was the fact they had secret meeting spots. It makes it seem so suspicous, its not very witty, but it is clever. For example one meeting spot was in the store where the diary was purchased. It was actually on the second floor. You know if seemed strange to me at first as to why they choose this location. Then I thought to myself and then remembered that the room doesn't have any TELESCREENS. From what I have read I believe Winston and Julia may stay together all the way until the end of the book. I believe this because when O'Brien asked them if they would do certain things to take down Big Brother they agreed to everything, but them seperating. It takes a strong bond to actually do that. Plus Winston probably doesn't want to let go of all that "ungood sex." To conclude, I wanna ask why did it take so long to introduce Julia in the book?

  10. The novel is good so far. It seems to have a much greater theme to it than most people believe. Readers may look at the Big Brother corporation and think that the story evolves around Winston, his issues, and the different situations that occur throughout the book. There is a theme that goes beyond the obvious plot of the story, and that is, freedom is key in life. Big Brother controls the thoughts and feelings of everyone and assign punishments to those who even think of opposing Big Brother. Individuals such as Emmanuel Goldstein, who oppose Big Brother and have even written books to reveal its dictatorship, have been banished by Big Brother and are now the topic of the 2 Min. Hate Series. The book, so far, seems to shed light on the importance of freeedom of speech and the freedom of ones expression. Winston says that 2 plus 2 is 4 and everything else from there will follow. He is elaborating on the importance of freedom and the right to express your ideas and thoughts.
